Bandhej Printing

Rajasthani Bandhej printing is an ancient traditional tie-and-dye technique famous for its bright and detailed designs. In this ancient artistic form from the deserts of Rajasthan, the cloth is tied with thread at predetermined design shapes and then dyed. This technique infuses a kaleidoscope of bright patterns at the end, ranging from minute geometrical motifs to tiny dots. Each one of them is different, speaking volumes about the dexterity of the craftsman and about the cultural ethos to which he belongs. The bandhej fabrics are at times used for making sarees, dupattas, and other traditional garments, valued widely for their bright and rich color scheme. The ancient art forms reflect the spirit of the innovative and dynamic state of Rajasthan and portray the beauty of Rajasthan’s artisan history.
